We often think of our pets as being more reliant on their keen sense of smell. It’s true, their olfactory abilities are pretty amazing. But your cat or dog relies on all its senses, especially sight. At Pima Pet Clinic we emphasize proper eye care and routine testing, especially for senior pets.
Our experienced and skilled staff provide the following types of pet eye care tests and treatment:
- Slit Lamp / Biomicroscopy
- Corneal Ulcers
- Corneal Abrasions
Tonometry is a test that uses a device (a tonometer) to detect the amount of pressure in your pet’s eyes. It helps us know if your pet has glaucoma, which can lead to blindness if not properly treated.
Tonometry does not require sedation and should be performed any time a pet has suffered an eye injury.
In biomicroscopy, slit lamps allow us to use a microscope to look at the front part of your pet’s eyes, like the lens, iris, and retina.
Corneal ulcers and abrasions are common issues for dogs and cats, especially highly active ones. Trauma to the eye is the most common cause of cornea damage. Our staff will test your pet’s eye to determine the most appropriate treatment.
If your cat or dog is in pain or is uncomfortable and scratching their eye, please contact us immediately. We can help!
